Age Concern Older Offenders Project (South West)

ACOOP Partnership Group Profiles

Professor Phyllida Parsloe

Trustee of the Sir Halley Stewart Trust

Phyllida moved from being a probation officer to become a psychiatric social worker and then to lecture at the London School of Economics. After a period teaching in a Law school in the United States, Phyllida held the chair of Social Work at Aberdeen University and then at the University of Bristol. At Bristol she was responsible for teaching social work and social policy students as well as for research. Later she was Dean and then Pro Vice Chancellor as well as chairing the Frenchay NHS Trust and subsequently the North Bristol NHS Trust. Since retiring Phyllida has become the chair or board member of a number of voluntary agencies and housing associations and is a Thornbury Town Councillor.

Phyllida became a member of the Partnership Group because the Sir Halley Stewart Trust, of which she is a trustee and chair of the social welfare section, provided some of the funding for the project and also because she is “very interested in both older people and offenders”
