Over 50s Prisoners Groups
Tuesday, April 15th 2008
We aim to give social care, advice and support to older offenders and their families, both in prison and within the wider criminal justice system. The work will start at Dartmoor and Channings Wood prisons in May 2008.
This is the first project in England that addresses some of these issues in a practical and effective way, working in partnership with prisons, probation trusts, other voluntary and community groups and prisoners. Volunteers are needed to support every aspect of this work including...
- Arranging lectures
- Befriending
- Clerical work
- Facilitating discussion groups
- Fund raising
- Helping prisoners prepare for retirement on release from prison
- Organising groupwork
- Promotion of health (e.g. chair based exercise)
- Providing practical information and advice,
- Signposting to other services
- Supporting bookgroups (identified by prisoners as this provides activity beyond the actual ACOOP session visit
There will be an informal presentation about the project on Monday, 19th May at 7 pm in the Exeter Arms, East Street, Okehampton. For further information please contact the Project Manager, Liz Davis, on: 01460 76003 or 07975 767929
