Cell Assessment
Tuesday, January 26th 2010
ACOOP were asked to carry out an assessment on some older prisoners’ cells, specifically looking at any
potential risks of the prisoner falling or tripping within their cell. All prisoners were over 50 and had been
suggested by a member of the Prison Healthcare Team.
The same 12 questions were asked by the ACOOP worker to all prisoners.
Several prisoners stated that their lighting was inadequate.
Some had difficulty in getting off the bed easily as their feet did not touch the ground.
There were shoes and small mats on the floor that could become a tripping hazard.
Walking sticks were checked for height and condition of the ferrule on the base of the stick.
All prisoners were made aware of any potential tripping or falling hazard that could occur within their cell.
