If you need help or advice the following organisations are available to give free, impartial advice and information:

The Prison Reform Trust has an advice and information service. They can provide advice to people in prison, their families and anyone working with prisoners.  They answer queries about all aspects of the prison system. They can’t provide legal advice but they will write to a prison for you if this is needed. You can contact them by calling 020 7251 5070. If you are in prison you will to need to change your pin number to call them. However, this is not a free phone number.  You can also write to them at Prison Reform Trust, Freepost ND 6125 London EC1B 1PN.

The Prisoners’ Families Helpline is the National Helpline which is co-ordinated by Action for Prisoners Families and offers information and support to anyone with a friend or relative in prison. Trained call centre staff can give information about the various issues affecting the families and friends of those who are imprisoned such as visiting, transfers, benefits and what to tell children. The Helpline can send out Information sheets and refer to other organisations where necessary. There is a website and email service where information sheets can be downloaded and specific queries can be answered.
